Field Service Manager
£50,000-£55,000 per annum + Company Car

Location: Home Counties (Role covers the South)

The Opportunity

Are you an experienced people leader with a strong track record of managing geographically dispersed teams and driving operational performance?

We're working with an established service-led business to recruit a Field Service Manager, responsible for leading and developing a team of Field Service Engineers across the South.

This is a strategically focused leadership position, where you will take ownership of regional performance, translating wider business objectives into clear priorities and ensuring your team delivers consistently high standards of service.

Rather than being a technical engineering role, this position is centred around people management, performance improvement and creating a high-performing regional team. You'll be responsible for setting expectations, developing individuals, driving accountability and ensuring the region operates effectively in line with the wider business strategy.

About the role

As Regional Service Manager, you'll have overall responsibility for the people, performance and development of your regional engineering team. Working closely with the wider management team, you'll ensure the regional strategy is effectively implemented, whilst identifying opportunities to improve performance, capability and engagement.

You'll need to be a visible and proactive leader, capable of building strong relationships with employees in the field, challenging underperformance and developing a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

  • Take full ownership of the region, providing strategic leadership and direction to a geographically dispersed team of Field Service Engineers.
  • Translate wider business objectives and service strategies into clear regional plans, priorities and performance targets.
  • Lead, motivate and develop engineers, establishing clear expectations and creating a culture of accountability and high performance.
  • Conduct regular 1-2-1s, performance reviews and development discussions, providing coaching, feedback and support.
  • Monitor regional and individual performance against KPIs, using management information and performance data to identify trends and drive improvements.
  • Recognise strong performance whilst proactively addressing underperformance and implementing improvement plans where required.
  • Identify skills gaps, development requirements and succession opportunities across the region.
  • Lead the implementation of business initiatives, new processes and changes, ensuring they are effectively embedded within the team.
  • Work collaboratively with other Regional Managers and senior stakeholders to share best practice and drive consistency across the wider service operation.
  • Maintain strong relationships across the business, working alongside technical, operational and support teams to ensure the region performs effectively.

What we're looking for

  • Proven experience leading and developing teams, ideally within a geographically dispersed, field-based or multi-site environment.
  • A strong track record of managing performance, setting expectations and driving improvements across a team.
  • Experience translating business strategy into practical plans and objectives at a regional or operational level.
  • Confident using KPIs, performance dashboards and management information to measure performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • A hands-on, engaging leadership style, with the ability to coach, motivate and develop individuals.
  • Comfortable managing challenging conversations, addressing underperformance and holding people accountable.
  • Experience leading teams through change and embedding new processes or ways of working.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Commercially aware, with an understanding of how team performance impacts customer experience and wider business results.
  • Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel regularly throughout the designated region.

Importantly, an engineering or technical background is not essential. We're particularly interested in experienced people leaders who can demonstrate their ability to take ownership of a region, develop a team and consistently improve performance.
