Privacy policy

What BOQQS collects when you browse listings, why we collect it, and the rights you have over it under Nigerian and UK data protection law.

Last updated 13 Oct 2026

boqqs.com is a job listing site. We publish roles, internships, apprenticeships, and graduate schemes in the United Kingdom and Nigeria, and we link you to the employer's own application page. We do not collect CVs and we do not process applications.

This policy explains what personal data we handle, on what legal basis, and how you can exercise your rights. It is written to meet the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, the UK GDPR, and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Who is responsible for your data

BOQQS is an independent job listing service and is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy.

We serve users in both Nigeria and the United Kingdom, so two regimes apply to us. Processing of Nigerian residents’ data is governed by the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, and processing of UK residents’ data by the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Where they differ we apply whichever gives you the stronger protection.

You can reach us about anything in this policy at hello@boqqs.com.

What we collect

Because we do not run accounts or take applications, the amount of data we hold is deliberately small:

  • Search and filter terms you enter, so we can return results and understand which searches return nothing useful.
  • Standard server log data — IP address, browser type, pages requested, and timestamps — retained for security and troubleshooting.
  • Saved listings, which are stored in your own browser's local storage and never transmitted to us.
  • Anything you choose to send us by email, for as long as needed to answer you.

We do not ask job seekers for a name, address, phone number, date of birth, or right-to-work documents, except for a name and email if you choose to use the help chat, described below. If an employer's site asks for those after you click through, that collection is governed by their privacy policy, not ours.

Employers who submit a listing give us more, because we have to be able to verify and contact them:

  • The company name, the name of the person posting, and a company email address. Free webmail addresses are refused, because an advertiser who cannot be traced to an organisation cannot be held to account for what they advertise.
  • The country and city the listing was submitted from, worked out at our host's edge network. We keep this to spot listings whose stated location does not match where they were posted, which is a common signal of a fraudulent advert. We do not store the IP address itself — the location is what informs the decision, and the address would be more personal data than the purpose needs.
  • The browser's user agent string, for the same fraud checks.

That submission data is kept for 12 months and then deleted automatically, while the listing itself remains. We rely on legitimate interests — preventing fraudulent job adverts, which cause real harm to job seekers.

Help chat

If you use the chat on this site, we ask for your name and email so we can answer you and reply by email if you leave. Your messages are answered by an AI assistant (Anthropic's Claude, reached through OpenRouter; both process messages in the United States) and, if you ask for a person, by our team through Telegram.

Chat records are stored with Supabase in the EU (Ireland) and kept for 12 months, then deleted. Please don't share passwords or card details in the chat. To see or delete your chat history, email hello@boqqs.com.

Why we can use it

We rely on legitimate interests to operate, secure, and improve the site — running a job board that returns relevant results, and keeping it free from abuse. We rely on consent for any non-essential cookies, which you can withdraw at any time.

Who we share it with

We do not sell personal data. We share it only with the suppliers that keep the site running — hosting, error monitoring, and analytics — each acting on our instructions under a written contract.

When you click Apply, you leave BOQQS and land on the employer's or job board's own site. What happens there is outside our control and covered by their policies.

How long we keep it

Server logs are kept for 12 months. Email correspondence is kept for 24 months from the last message. Anything saved in your browser stays until you clear it.

Your rights

Under both the Nigeria Data Protection Act and the UK GDPR you can ask us for a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict how we use it, or object to our use of it. You can also ask us to transfer it to another provider. We apply these rights to everyone, wherever you live, rather than checking which regime covers you first.

Email hello@boqqs.com and we will respond within one month.

If you are unhappy with our response, you can complain to the regulator where you live. In Nigeria that is the Nigeria Data Protection Commission at ndpc.gov.ng. In the United Kingdom it is the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. Material changes will be flagged on the home page for at least 30 days.
