How it's worked out

Pro-rata pay is the full-time salary multiplied by your contracted hours divided by the full-time hours. Holiday is pro-rated the same way, and is clearer counted in hours when your days vary in length.

Take-home is worked out on the pro-rata salary with 2026/27 income tax and National Insurance, before any pension or student loan.

Common questions

How do you calculate a pro-rata salary?
Divide your hours by the full-time hours and multiply by the full-time salary. £30,000 full time on 37.5 hours, worked at 22.5 hours a week, is 22.5 ÷ 37.5 × £30,000 = £18,000.
What does pro rata mean on a job advert?
The salary shown is the full-time figure, and you will be paid a share of it in proportion to your hours. '£30,000 pro rata, 3 days a week' means £18,000 for a five-day full-time week of 37.5 hours.
How is part-time holiday worked out?
The same way: the full-time entitlement times your share of full-time hours. 28 days full time becomes 16.8 days at 60%, and it is clearer to count it in hours if your days vary in length.
Is part-time take-home simply a share of full-time take-home?
No — it is usually a bit more than that share, because more of a smaller salary falls inside the £12,570 tax-free allowance.
