The role is looking for a mechanically biased engineer with strong hands-on experience in the overhaul and maintenance of rotating equipment, particularly pumps and motors. Key responsibilities include replacing mechanical seals and bearings, carrying out pump repairs, fault-finding, and helping to improve equipment reliability across the estate.

Working as part of a multi-skilled maintenance team, you will be responsible for delivering both planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across a diverse estate, ensuring critical mechanical infrastructure remains safe, compliant and fully operational.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carrying out pump repairs, fault-finding, and helping to improve equipment reliability across the estate.
  • Replacing mechanical seals and bearings.
  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on mechanical plant, equipment and associated systems.
  • Diagnose faults, undertake repairs and identify solutions to minimise downtime and service disruption.
  • Support the operation, maintenance and optimisation of building services infrastructure.
  • Complete maintenance activities in line with statutory regulations, safety standards and industry best practice.
  • Update maintenance records and job reports using CAFM systems.
  • Assist with the preparation and review of Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
  • Support project works, asset replacements and infrastructure upgrades.
  • Maintain high standards of health, safety and compliance across all work activities.
  • Provide technical support and advice to colleagues, contractors and building users.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and ensure plant reliability across the estate.

Essential Requirements

  • Recognised Mechanical Apprenticeship and NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a Mechanical Engineering discipline.
  • Proven experience maintaining and repairing mechanical building services systems.
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Good understanding of health and safety legislation and safe systems of work.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and manuals.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a busy maintenance team.

Technical Experience

Candidates should have experience with a range of mechanical building services systems, including:

  • Pumps, expansion vessels and pressure systems.
  • Hot water calorifiers and plate heat exchangers.
  • Steam systems and gas-fired boilers.
  • Ventilation and air handling systems.
  • Heating, cooling and fresh air systems.
  • Chillers, DX and VRF cooling systems.
  • Domestic hot and cold water systems.
  • Public health engineering systems including L8 compliance.
  • Compressed air systems.
  • Fume cupboards and laboratory ventilation systems.
  • Ground and air source heat pumps.
  • District heating systems.
  • CHP plant and renewable energy technologies.
  • Control systems including actuators and sensors.
  • Sprinkler and fire protection systems.
  • General mechanical plant and equipment within commercial or complex estates.

If you are a qualified Mechanical Maintenance Technician looking for a new challenge with genuine permanent prospects and the opportunity to work across a diverse and technically interesting estate, we would be keen to hear from you.
