How to renew a CSCS card
Renew a CSCS card through the My CSCS app or CSCS Online, from six months before it expires. You need a CITB Health, Safety and Environment test pass from the last two years, and the card fee. Most renewed cards arrive within about five working days.
When you can renew
From six months before your card's expiry date. If it has already expired, you can usually still renew within a year; after that, CSCS may ask for more evidence.
Labourer cards have their own rule: a first two-year card can be renewed for five years within one year of expiry, with evidence that you are still labouring. After more than a year you have to appeal with evidence.
What you need
A CITB HS&E test pass at the right level, taken within the last two years. For most people, renewing means sitting the test again.
The same qualification your card was issued on. If you have since gained a higher qualification, you can apply for a higher card instead of renewing.
The card fee: £36 (£42 from 1 February 2027).
Renewal checklist
Check your expiry date in the My CSCS app or on the card. Book the CITB test if your last pass is more than two years old — at the level your card needs. Have your qualification certificate ready in case CSCS asks for it again. Then apply in the app or on CSCS Online and pay the fee.
Cards you cannot renew
Provisional, Apprentice, Experienced Worker, Experienced Technical/Supervisor/Manager and the five-year Trainee card cannot be renewed — you are expected to have moved on to a full card. The PQP card is not renewed either; you apply for a new one.
