Business Architect - £700 per day - 6 Month Contract

Rate: Up to £750 per day

Duration: 6 months (extendable)

IR35: Inside

Location: Hybrid - London

Clearance: SC Cleared

The Role:

A leading Central Government department is seeking an experienced Business Architect to join a multidisciplinary design team, responsible for the business architecture of a large, complex public service.

You will assess how proposed changes affect the wider business and technology landscape, shape current and target-state architecture, and develop practical roadmaps that support successful transformation. You will work alongside civil servants and a design lead, taking a whole-system view and producing high-quality designs that are right first time and move through governance with minimal rework.

Experience & Requirements:

  • Strong experience in business architecture at senior practitioner level, including current-state and target-state architecture, capability mapping, value streams and strategic roadmaps.
  • Strong experience developing and supporting Target Operating Models (TOMs) and future-state operating models.
  • Proven ability to assess how strategic change impacts the business and operating model, including technology, and to align strategic objectives with the way the organisation works.
  • Strong analytical skills, with experience identifying capability, process and organisational gaps and setting out the changes needed to address them.
  • Ability to translate complex business information into clear, structured recommendations.
  • Strong systems thinking, with experience of whole-system impacts, dependencies, risks and transition planning.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with confidence engaging senior stakeholders across strategic and operational levels.
  • Comfortable working collaboratively in blended teams of contractors and civil servants, including taking direction from design leadership where required.
  • Experience supporting business transformation and digital change programmes.
  • Willingness to bring constructive challenge and fresh perspectives, share best practice, and build the capability of the wider team through knowledge transfer.
  • Ability to develop and embed business architecture principles, standards and best practice.
  • Strong facilitation skills and a data-driven approach. Business analysis or service design experience is a plus, as the role may cross disciplines in smaller teams.
  • Central Government, Public Sector or regulated environment experience is desirable.
