Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and compassionate Registered Children's Nurse to join our Paediatric Services team at Wye Valley NHS Trust. This is an exciting opportunity to work across a diverse range of paediatric settings, including the General Paediatric Ward, Paediatric Assessment Unit, Paediatric Outpatients, and Paediatric Emergency Department. The successful candidate will be committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for children and young people. This role also provides opportunities to develop leadership skills, including frequently taking charge of the ward or department in the absence of senior colleagues. We welcome motivated nurses who are passionate about paediatric care and eager to contribute to a supportive and forward-thinking team dedicated to delivering excellent outcomes for children and their families.

Main duties of the job

  • Deliver high-quality, compassionate, family-centred care to children and young people across Paediatric Services.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualised nursing care to meet patients' physical, emotional, and developmental needs.
  • Work effectively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe and effective patient care.
  • Support the Ward Manager in the day-to-day running of the ward and department.
  • Act as a named nurse, coordinating and managing care for allocated patients and families.
  • Take charge of the ward or department and lead shifts in the absence of senior nursing staff.
  • Demonstrate effective communication with children, young people, families, and colleagues using both verbal and non-verbal skills.
  • Contribute to the supervision, support, and education of students, healthcare support workers, and newly qualified staff.
  • Promote and maintain a positive learning environment that supports professional development.
  • Participate in safeguarding activities, including recognising and escalating child protection concerns.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and professional patient records.
  • Contribute positively to the ongoing development of Paediatric Services across the General Paediatric Ward, Paediatric Assessment Unit, Paediatric Outpatients, and Paediatric Emergency Department.
  • Ensure care is delivered in accordance with Trust policies, professional standards, and evidence-based practice.
