Data analytics is the most searched free-course topic in Nigeria, and also the one with the most misleading listings — half the courses advertised as “free with certificate” are free to watch and charge for the certificate. Here is what each of these actually gives you.

1. Coursera
Google Data Analytics Certificate
Free to learn · certificate costs extra
The full path from spreadsheets through SQL, R and Tableau, built around case studies rather than lectures.
The most widely recognised of the free-to-audit options, and the one Nigerian employers are most likely to have heard of. You can work through every lesson without paying; the certificate needs a subscription.
Coursera states around six months at a few hours a weekOpen the course →
2. freeCodeCamp
Data Analysis with Python
Free certificate
Numpy, Pandas and Matplotlib taught through five projects you have to build to pass.
Genuinely free end to end, certificate included, and project-based — you finish with code you can show rather than a completion badge.
SQL from SELECT to joins and aggregation, with an editor you can type into.
Not a course so much as a reference you can practise in, and the fastest way to get from nothing to writing a working query. The certificate is paid and worth skipping.
Check the certificate before you start. Most listings calling a course “free with certificate” are describing a free course with a paid certificate. Where that is the case above, it says so.
Finish one thing. Three half-finished courses are worth less on a CV than one completed, and employers ask what you built, not what you enrolled in.
Terms change. Providers move courses behind subscriptions without notice. These were checked on 31 Aug 2026 — if you find one has changed, the fastest fix is to tell us.
